Tell me you were not just "teaching yourself" when you made that 3d rendering! What software did you use for that?

sorry zeke… it was a learning experience for/getting to know solidWorks! I was doing some research on the lock a well ;-)
If i had known what i know now… I would have created it in 3DSMax specifically for animation.
Those 2 were rendered using KeyShot3 from the solidWorks Model… there are a couple of poorer attempts on Photobucket and a test animation….

Great work! I was hoping you would say solidworks. I have tried to do similar things with autodesk products and it took ages to do as it is not as user friendly as some other softwares.

"Save as STL/OBJ and then open in Meshlab , export as 3DS" i think i found solution! I would love to see how it works in animation ;)

This is heading off topic Rapidly!!!!
mikus… id be more than happy to share the model if you think you can help me with the animation… or at least point me in the right direction

dg… if you are there, i know you wanted this model as well.. it is basically finished, maybe another 3-4 hours to go. But honestly, what I've learnt over the last few weeks; a good model is only maybe 10% of a good render. The lighting, textures, mappings, materials and a 101 other things makes building the model look easy. You may just want some pre arranged renders to fit your training needs! PM me.

Anyone else.. PM me again… the OP specifically said no spam!!!

Now they are some seriously beautiful cutaways. And as for the MCS modellings...

Snowyboy, am I right in saying you do not have a mill? That most of your work has been done using a drill press and 2-way vice? If that is right, can I ask, have you had any problems with cutters falling out of the chuck (or did you change out the drill chuck?)?

Also, how has it coped with the lateral loads placed on the bearings? Does it not make for high spindle runout?

I DO use a designated XYZ milling machine. Drill presses are not designed for lateral movement, only vertical... hence why you might be having problems?

Should always have the right gear for the job. Making cutaways like I do would be impossible on anything other than a milling machine.

Be careful! Those carbide cutters are dense. If they come out the chuck they will penetrate skin...!
What a load of old BiLocks!!!!

I'm probably 0 for 400 in looking for safes behind wall paintings

So I have working on this project for a while, and I finally have something to share! It's not done yet, I need to buy more bits since I am doing all my work on my colleges mill and theirs have been abused.

HUGE shout out to l0ckcr4ck3r for letting me bombard him with questions on machining. Great guy yall should buy his stuff because the guy knows his stuff.

So I ended up cutting a Mul-T-Lock G47 because they are one of the sexyest feeling locks I have held but more importantly I had it.

Drew it up in a program called Fusion 360, which is a CAD and a CAM software.

Here is what It will look like when it is done.

I just cut out the housing today

Really cool lock.

Hopefully will cut open the lock here in the next couple weeks. So that should be exciting. Any critiques from you guys would be appreciated. :D

Great work, especially as its your fist attempt!! learning CAD & CAM in such a short time is also a great achievement.

No critique here on your work... just a shame the mill doesnt have true 3D capabilities... that chamfer on the window would have looked killer!

Surprising how similar it looks to my design for the G55.. need to get round to that one soon, but keep up the great work.
