I don't know what the top pins look like because I still haven't pulled this lock apart, but the bottom pins are serated.

Anyone ever figure out if/how to take the core out of this lock? I can take some pics if necessary. But I can't figure it out.

I was under the impression that you had to drill out the pin in the side of the lock to release the core and press a new one in when reassembling the lock. I am not sure though as i dont think these locks are designed with removing the core in mind.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

It'd be nice if these cores were removable, wouldn't it be great to make a cutaway out of one of these babys?

Maybe someone knows how to remove the core the easiest way even if it means destroying the lock? I can just go buy another one and make a cutaway out of one and keep the other for practice.

Try drilling the pin in the side.... I might buy another one and drill it and see what happens... If I can get the cylinder out perhaps I could find a way to put it back in without making it permnant.. Perhaps it could be tapped and have a screw in it rather than a pin. I'd love to have a cut away of this lock though... with all the security pins and what not.. It would be nice to see them in action...

Lets do it - lets all find a way to make a cutaway of this lock, because this lock is pretty hardcore.

One thing I wonder about is if you cut away part of the walls surrounding the pins, would that not possibly mess up the operataion of the security pins? I mean.. would they even function as they're supposed to anymore?

Another thing is that this whole lock is made of hardened steel, that's not exactly easy to grind/file is it?

you'll go through a few hacksaw blades trying to cut it - but you'll get there.

I was thinking that too about the security pins - they rely on cylinderical pin chambers.

Inflation however, may have changed this.
...
edit: yup, its definately 43 now

Concerning the security pins working if a cutaway is made:
Perhaps if you cut a thin vertical line with a dremel tool + cut-off wheel where each pin resides, it might still function correctly. It would certainly be better than completely removing the entire side.
