Pinning beyond MACS

Couldn't help but switch with tools, and i used something that i would have never thought i'd use.

My Southord Long hook (with a 90 degree bend).
Took me 2 minutes to pick, i guess i shouldn't allway stick to the regular short hook pick.

Not going to disassemble it yet, as i want Ben to give it a shot with either his falle safe picks or my long hook, picking it feels weird, has a rough feel to it.

Glad i managed to open it though, gives me 4 spare spool pins, if i need it.

BTW I found that the best place to pin beyond MACS is on the last pin (i.e, the one that is being driven by the tip of the key) with the last pin being a long one (low cut in key). That is, if you have to have a key at all.

Admittedly this whole excercise is academic, but it's fun to hand a friend a 5 pin Kwikset with a 0-6-0-6 pattern in it and watch him go nuts.

if you're using the wrong cutter you may end up causing extra wear on the locks.
sargent uses very steep cuts, but it's a pretty well made lock. if you use sargent cuts in a kwikset lock i would guess it would lead to the lock wearing out faster, however i don't see any other reason not to do this (as long as it's on your own lock)
