I've picked a couple of those. My friend gave me one, and I picked my other friends in a couple seconds.

The way to pick the keyhole is to use a small tension wrench and pick.
I made the tension wrench out of the metal clip of a pen. (I've been using a normal tension wrench from southord that comes with the jackknife)

The pick is made from a bobby pin. Bend the pin so it makes an L shape, and strip off the plastic from the straight side. Then put a small bend at the tip of the straight end. Don't bend it the easy way, you have to bend it across the hardest way... err... takes me a few tries because I end up twisting them.

Then pick the lock (^_^). There's a way to backward solve the combination (down to 10 possible combinations) after you pick the back. If you'd really like to know PM me.

i tried to pick an old combination lock, the lock turns but it doesnt open?

I had that problem for a while... it sucked..... I had to figure out the combo, after that I could pick the back again. I think the mechanism gets stuck or something.

Why not use a bobby pin as a wrench at the top of the keyway? That should solve the problem of not being able to get both the wrench and the pick in the lock.

I think he meant to say x-ray.
Actually, since the wheels in common combo locks like Masters are plastic, I don't think an x-ray would help.. but I'm more than sure that comment was more of a joke

why havent u tryed a shim. i learned off of youtube. i learned all lockpicking on youtube. just be careful because if u break a shim in the lock u cant try and shim it again. :!:

Back in the day xray's were a common method of safecrackers.

There are more then 3 ways you can open a master if you dont know the combo (forgotten, found the lock, whatever)

First, use some slimline picks to pick the back lock, alternatively, i have picked them with a tension wrench and a paper clip, i know most high class guys don't incourage the use of them, even in a hunch, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do, and if you dont have any slimline picks, well a pin, or even a paper clip can mean a world of difference...

Second, is the shim. There is a gazillion (yes literally a gazillion) videos on youtube on this, just search for combination lock, you are bound to hit hundreds, and yes be warned that a shim can get stuck in your lock, and yes that means that you wont be able to shim it open again.

Thirdly, you can't get a combination for it, there are a few vids online (dunno how accurate, i havent tried actually following the guides, I dont have a master combination lock) on cutting down the total amount of possible combinations to about a 100 by finding the last digit, getting some other mesurements and doing some basic math, then you need to try all of them (bout 15-25 minutes) and then you have a combination to show for it too, or at least so those videos claim. ( this one i am a bit skeptical about, but i would try it if i had a master combination lock, most you can do is spend 20 minutes and disprove a myth! ) (and there are a few hundred of those, at metacafe, youtube and other favorite streaming websites...

That method works very well on the older master padlocks , I think they changed something on the currently manufacturered padlocks to prevent that .

Do a web search.. the answer is out there....

The method to narrowing it down to about 100 combos works, even with the new masterlocks. I've used it 4 separate times with success. Even the new master sphero locks work, the difference is in finding the last number (it's the number that the when pressure is exerted on the shackle will still be loose for a full 2 numbers ex: 2-4 yielding 3 as the last number)

Slimline picks work well for most of them with a keyway, but there was one that I needed the slimline tension wrench and a bobby pin to open.
