Forum name change

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Adding new forums and categories is not an issue with the software, it is built to be expanded and modified as the admins see fit.

The main challenge I can see with these ideas is that adding a new section for "keys" and "lockpick making" for example, could involve sorting through 38,883 topics containing 303,214 posts (and counting) in order to place them in the new more relevant categories and forums.

That is, unless the admins were happy to have information about different subjects distributed amongst categories that were no longer the most obvious place to find what you were looking for. Starting afresh with only moving the best posts from old to new categories could be a way forward, but it doesn't solve the fact that information about "pick making" may still not be in the "pick making" section, making for a somewhat disjointed and possibly confusing experience. Even if that were OK, I still see some admins giving up plenty of free time to sort through relevant posts to populate these new areas.

Changing a forum name to encompass extra information would be OK (i.e Locks to Locks and Keys) so I'm not saying it can't be done, just pointing out the pitfalls.

The popularity of this board and wealth of information it contains is a testament to its success, it's just with so much information, it can be difficult, in my experience at least, to administrate effective changes.

I disagree. This is a forum originally dedicated to locksport and picking locks. There are multiple other forum formats out there that will discuss locks and keys too.

Keep this forum with it's apt name and continue it's successes. Change the name and be prepared for the consequences.

Many courses you will ever attend will be postfixed with "101" because it is too well known as a learning module.

5thcorps, you are like most of the poets : misunderstood :P

5thcorps wrote:Exactly! I was suggesting the SUB forum ie: lockpicks manual, lockpicks automatic, locks, general chatter. I think there should be a keys section or locks & keys
