I'd say this usually means a combo lock would be ideal for the OP, since if he's out in the yard, he doesn't need to carry keys around. Unfortunately, a lot of combo locks are pretty easily bypassed, and an increasing number of criminals know it. So.... with all that in mind, if it were my shed, I'd probably put a Brinks Shrouded on it. This is basically a rebranded American 5300, without rekey ability, and with possibly lower tolerances. On a good day these are a sub-10 second pick for me, but when I was starting they seemed insurmountably hard.

I'm not a fan of combo locks for the same reason you list above - someone would just preset the code (used to do that back in school many eons ago). But I think you nailed it with the Brinks/American shrouded. Great example. And the Brinks name would tend to turn people away just through brand recognition. Especially if there's a Brinks Alarm sign in the window.

It is a funny small world! But I suspect most people that have an interest in one kind of "puzzle" will find both of interest, right?

I wouldn't say only the abloy protect series padlocks are hard to open.

The abloy classic padlocks are just as hard to open in my experience. This 330 classic i've got is a royal PITA. I've got a spare if you want to trade/buy.

all of those adviced are very useful information. and i can only contribute a little about maybe one solution too. if your shop door has a primary steel grill of an accordion type try to find a way that the padlock can be install from the inside. and only accessable by hand both side to insert the key. this way the padlock is protected. a CISA 285/84 is okey for me.
hi everyone, im glad to be a member of this very interesting community, our community of locksmiths. i hope i could help others, within my ability, and hope you can help me too, God bless us all fellow locksmiths.
