You wont be able to pick this with one of the regular disk detainer picks. So, maybe you should get a cheap chinese disk detainer padlock as well.
i smell a challenge. I SMELL ADVENTURE!
No, its not a challenge...you can't use one of the 'normal' disk detainer picks on the lock.

It is a disc detainer lock, but it uses a "disc blocking system" that makes picking extremely difficult, many say impossible. Of course, this is in addition to being a high tolerance lock with false notches and other security features. More info is available in Han fey's Protec paper: http://toool.nl/images/8/8a/Abloypart3.pdfdg

disc detainer pick. I know everyone here says I wont be able to pick it with that pick, but the lock is a disc detainer and if Im going to try to pick a lock that hasnt been picked yet i probably ought to use a pick meant for that style of lock.

That style pick is meant for the 1907 thru ~1980 Abloy and knock-off disc detainer mechanisms. The Abloy Protec is a very evolved disc detainer mechanism and is not susceptible to a picking attempt because the second you apply any kind of tension, the DBS (disc blocking system) will make all discs locks up so you cannot move them with the tip of the old fashioned disc detainer pick. If the Protec was at all remotely pickable using that tool, Jaakko and or Barry would have already done it. you seem determined though, so try it out and if you find something cool or revolutionary that other people haven't stumbled across, come back and share your findings.
