79 ??? Is that a Protec? That is 52 EUR and I can buy Abloy PL330C for 32.90 EUR

Yes, it's a Protec. A lot of money for a very small padlock. I'd be shocked if it cost more than $35 from Abloy wholesale.

I dont know about all this... In the army we are taught our gun is our weapon... if we call it anything else in basic we get in trouble. its not a gun, or a firearm... is occasionally a rifle... I think a weapon is anything tha can hurt someone... or anything you can use to defend yourself... firearm and blade are caagories of weapons... but thats off topic lol I recall in basic training at Ft. Polk, LA, we were taught the jingle "this [pointing at M-16) is my weapon, this [pointing at one's dick] is my gun... this is for killing, this is for fun!" Ahhh the days of my youth!

A gun is as much of a weapon as a ballpoint pen is - and isn't - it all depends on the context of use. Thats my $0.02

Funny thing is that in Finland, the home of Abloy, there seems to be no Abloy wholesale. I wanted to have some pl330´s for sale, and made about 8 phone calls today. Abloys first response was: -Maybe you can buy them from a locksmith? They only sell locks to Abloy-certified locksmiths and major business groups(big hardware stores etc.). After talking to their sales person, he guided me to a large locksmith company. They give me 35% off list price, so that pl330 classic costs me exactly 32.90. There is not much profit in these for me, but sometimes companys will pay more when they get keys etc. from same place (me).

Could you perhaps make arrangements with management to install a firearms safe, either in your locker or in their office for you to use?
Have you thought about disassembling the gun, leaving half of it in a firearm safe in your car and the other half in the gym management's safe or in a firearm safe that you've made arrangements to have on site?
Although insurance may cover the loss, that's small consolation for the victim when the gun is finally used. I think the problem with gun ownership isn't the right to have the firearms but the responsibilities that come with gun ownerships. Pro gun activists always say that if guns are banned only the criminals would have them but where do you think the criminals get their guns from? If you want to assert your right to bear arms, you must accept responsibility for what might happen with that weapon, being compensated by insurance for a stolen firearm does not absolve you of that responsibility, you've still allowed it to fall into the hands of a criminal.

I'm no expert on guns, but I'd also throw a trigger lock on too in addition to the backwards diskus lock mentioned before - just incase. I know that if the criminal is going to 'somehow' get into your locker without picking, a trigger lock will set them back just that extra bit. Thats just my opinion though.

If they get their hands on the firearm itself, they dont care about a trigger lock or anything else. At that point its portable and they can drill out a trigger lock later.
Thanks again for everyones assistance here, i did link this thread from that one so the gun guys could see what the lock guys thought
Thanks again

In Rio de Janeiro, four kids came at me with a steak knife to rob me, I chased them off but had it been a gun, I would've taken cover. Somehow I think there is still a difference between a gun and a ballpoint pen. What really irks me is that there were 5 police officers a block away watching the whole mugging attempt.

+1 You need to learn what requirements your state has as far as how you are allowed/required to store unattended firearms... Often there will be trigger lock requirements as well as locking them in a proper "container"... You really need to be vigilant about this, as keeping a firearm stored improperly that ends up being stolen could mean your carry permit gets revoked... ~~ Evan

... Your kidding right? I sense some old school lockie mentality here. What would you suggest as a locksmith? Medeco for my front door? Or BiLock? Or Wiser? Or Schlage?
