White Spirit = Mineral Spirit (in the USA and Canada). Also known as "Mineral Turpentine", and generally used a painter thinner.
I usually attempt to clean locks with more gentle approaches first. My favorite is hot water and a bit of dish detergent. Put lock parts into a small, sealed plastic container and shake gently. You'd be amazed at the difference it makes. (I also rinse well afterwards and dry, before lubricating properly)
