That is certainly a good article for those learning about SFIC. But trying to limit this particular thread to pictures of actual keyways.

Best E-Keyway - the picture looks more like F-keyway but the main protruding warding is more triangle shaped than square, at least when I look at the padlock in good light - I added another photo. Best WB-Keyway - This cylinder represents the peak of my picking career! I've picked it to control many times now but still can't hit operating. Cheers, Sean

B8 is the FM keyway. Jeff, how much would you charge for some keyed Best cores? What keyways do you have?

Not exactly sure what this could be. Those diagrams are pretty crudely drawn. Maybe a Q? I dunno.

Looks a lot like the Best E keyway to me, possibly a D. If your making keys for it, get some DE blanks and you should be all set.

You can narrow down your choices by observing that the keyway has a large flat area on the right side of the keyway. BA, F, H, Q, and R are the only keyways with this feature. It doesn't quite look like a Q keyway to me... the left side warding isn't quite big enough and its lower than where it should be. And it can't be R if it can't be Q because they're essentially the same except for the fact that R's left warding is squared off at the bottom. This leaves BA, F, and H. You can reasonably deduct H from your possiblities because that keyway makes a few 90 degree turns whereas here they look more like 70 degree angles to me. Your now left with BA and F, and I'm just going to guess that the core is an F keyway because I have found that they're orders of magnitude more common than BA is. Just a note: BA keys work in F cylinders but the reverse is not true (unless of course you have really worn locks and keys.)

Holy cow, you have an eye for this. So if I ordered some BA blanks I'd be set even if it happened to be an F?
Do other manufacturers have such a wide array of key ways as well?

Yeah it should work no problem. Jet, JMA, and Best are the manufacturers I know of that make BA keyblanks. Best may seem like they have a lot of keyways, but compared to some older lock brands like Yale or Sargent, their selection is quite small. Overall though, I'd say Corbin Russwin has the biggest variety of keyways. And to add to the mix, just about every other group of keyways that they offer has their own "bitting class," which means different spacing and/or depth specifications. Anyway, I hope you can find some blanks for your padlock!
