I've always thought that if we have some kind of LP101 convention, we ought to rent out a pub right near the convention center and call it the sidebar.

Towch, I think his impression of a sidebar is something that supplements an ordinary bitting -- if there's no normal top pins, you'd call it something else. Just a terminology thing.

Okay, I suppose I do not know what a sidebar is, then. ^_^;;

That sounds about right. I always thought a sidebar was a second set of pins on the side, that was at least what I picked up from the presentation by Deviant Ollam at DEFCON, and what I read in his slides on deviating.net.

Anyway, I haven't yet gotten a hold of a digital camera, but once I do, pics will be mine!

Well, here's Medeco's picture of it, anyway.

A sidebar is a piece of metal that runs adjacent to the pins that has tiny.... barbs (?, metal....jut-out-things :roll: ) that fit into tiny holes in the pins themselves. It prevents the plug from turning unless all the barbs (?) fit into all the holes. I know BiLocks use them.

Well, it took me this long, but I finally picked it... the wrong way. I could tell it popped, but it still wouldn't turn more than a little bit. I wanna wait until I have a vice at my disposal, and maybe some dimpled lockpicks, since my tension wrench hand is pulsing in pain. =(
