but back to the topic of picking american padlocks... I agree with raimundo that they are pickable. I know because I remember picking an American 2010 which is supposedly high security. so just keep practicing and trying different amounts of tension - that was the hard part for me :)

I created just the right tensioner for the cyliner and now I can pick most 5 pin americans in about 5 to 10 minutes. I have bought a few new locks and there are only lower quality serrated pins in them :( has master gone super cheap with theese locks?

I've been trying different tensions - different tension wrenches, all types of picks. I guess I've just got to be patient and persitant.

Yeah, padlock shims. Americans don't have locking dogs like most padlocks. You can shim any pin tumbler lock provided the flange doesn't get in the way.

Or you could drill it, then just use a blank to help shim the core. I still haven't been able to pick these things yet.
