These are round pin things.
Circular discs?
What does one call these types of pins?
These pics are from the Miwa U9.
Do you know of any other locks that work on a similar basis?
Once the pins have been rotated to the correct position, a locking bar falls into place allowing the lock to open.

They not pins, they would be considered levers. There are MANY other locks with sidebars, but one with a particular resemblance to this one would be an Ingersoll impregnable.

Thanks for the info. I did a quick search for tips and videos, but didn't find much. As I said, it was a quick search. I'll have more time tomorrow to take a better look.

It's definitely a step in the right direction.
I'll be searching the Ingersoll too.

Thanks all. I'll let you know what I find....

Thank you so much. I read through the pdf and following instructions. It's a great help. I'm only on 3 levers at the moment. I can pick it in the housing. It's really tough though. If I put tension on it from the left, I can't get it open, when I put tension in from the right, it opens. I'm not sure this would be the case with all 9 levers in place would it?

Anyways, just wanted to thank you. I'll start tomorrow with more levers in place. There are a few false cuts that really throw me off. Because of all the, I don't know what you call them, the bumps on the lever going outwards, away from the core. When the locking bar falls into a false cut, then I have to release tension to move the lever past it. When releasing tension the other levers pop out. Because the other levers have popped out, the lever I'm picking is too low in the stack and the locking bar does not engage. So I end up half picking them to get them past the false gates, using the bumps. It's really sensitive.

Ps, I have found that it does not require a heave tension. It get it open easier and faster with a light tension. Pretty much the same tension as a regular pin stack lock.

I am not sure, but I think that the Ingersoll does not have the bumpy things. One could say the levers on the Miwa U9 are serrated. Sort of like a steak knife.

Very informative thread.

My questione would be. Could you make a super secure lock for your home, by mixing and matching different mins.

Would you need to make a key for it your own?

To summarize anything and everything that anyone would ever need to know about security pins:

The top pins come in 3 major flavors:
1. Standard pin, usually used in low security locks or as a gate keeper in medium security locks preventing core from turning to the depth permitted by security pins.
2. Serrated pin. This is the standard security in. It's serrations cause it to grab to the edges of the sheerline making it harder to push up with the pick.
3. Spool pin. This is the "core resetter pin. When properly placed, it will have the narrow center near the sheer-line causing this pin not to bind until all other pins have been lifted past the sheer-line. The reason why this is called the core resetter pin is because when you are trying to push its bottom fat end past the sheer-line it will require core counter rotation, allowing many other pins to drop back down below the sheer line.

All other lock-sport mombo-jumbo like using up-side-down T-pin or threaded chambers are fun ways to make the lock harder to pick (been there, done that), however it also creates a less reliable lock, which is likely to wear out or bind even when real key is used. Sorry folks, it rally does not matter in which chamber, which pin is used. Apply tension, feel the binding pin, push it up. Practice, practice, practice.

Of-course high security locks like Schlage primus, ASSA, Abloy protec, Medeco, Multilock MT5 and 5+ are a whole different ballgame. Same picking philosophy applies but you need a whole different boatload of techniques.

I assume you mean the bottom photo .. Unless I am wrong.. I believe it is just a serrated pin .. Just only has 2 serrations .. Spool would only have one groove cut in it..
When I finally leave this world.. Will someone please tell my wife what I have REALLY spent on locks ...
