Dangit, I forgot to mention the deets! I pulled this off with my homebrew butter knife quad-peak Bogotá, and a paperclip to get that side bar pin thing where I wanted it. I made myself one of those special Best turning tools, with the little nubs that help put all the turning force on the control sleeve... But as you can see, it didn't do a whole lot this time around. I know it works, as I've had success on regular Best cores, just not so much on this particular lock.

That, and I've been at this for over a month now, so you can see in the picture how ecstatic I am about this!

Very nice, Fox. That is difficult to pick.

Your butter knife Bogota looks good!

Thanks man, I appreciate that. I'll be showing off some more picks soon.

Russwin 5 pin padlock. Basically, the non-master ring version (same dimensions, keyway, etc) of the Russwin MR padlock detailed in my collection thread.

More rain, more picking...
Doubled back to grab this 7 pin Best Peaks lock off the freeway. Got it to control the first time I picked it (maybe 5 or 7 minutes in) locked it back in place and haven't got it to control since. Just got the first open so I snapped a pic. This is a restricted keyway with a bonus pin (8 pins total) so I really want to get it to control again so I can swap in a usable core. I tension enough to get the bonus pin set then back off a bit and then pick.

Finely after 3 months I pick my master "lockout safety lock".
Six pins, one standard , not first binder, two serrated, one first binder,
and three spools, all three needing to be set two times.
I'm very happy to put this one in my pick at least once box.

This sucker has been bugging me for a month or so in off an on attempts. I brought it with me on vacation with a promise I wouldn't pick anything else until I had this baby open. I had it picked for a couple of minutes before I realized it and was about to reset and start over but it did in fact open. The spring tension required was expected but not anticipated and now I have myself wondering if I had reset this after having it picked it before.

Been there done that only I ten locks key the same and I am still wondering how many times I had opens and not know it.

Do practice locks count? If so, I've been learning on the Supermax lock. My first week since start lockpicking, and I'm up to 7 pins on this thing. Although all standard pins, I noticed a huge jump in difficulty after 5 pins. I was working on 6, but got a little board and went to 7.

First attempt took me 2.5 minutes, which I was excited about. Turns out it was just luck- because every time after that took me about 20 minutes.

If you picked it and its where you are at skill wise, then I would say that counts. Keep throwing pins in there and keep changing them until you can feel it out. If you have a friend thats into LP'ing have that person pin it and then blind pick it. Once it isn't a challenge anymore start throwing in some security pins. Just ease up on the strong hand and practice, you got this.

After ditching my first cheap, now broken picks I made some fresh ones out of wiper inserts to replace them today. Got open 2 of the old style Lockwood 245s, and one of the new ones with all spools. Seems that the cheap picks lack of strength was holding me back, so Im a very happy chappy.

I have a Peterson Phoenix GSP Silver set coming in the next couple of days so this is the barrel Im up against next..

So far no luck as I dont have anything small enough to get around in there. The pins sit atop the first ward. Oh, and its mounted in a Master No. 29 with the plug protection plate!

Cant wait for my Petersons!

Thanks. I jump back and forth. When I REALLy struggle, I simply remove some pins. When it gets too easy, I add more. Not at security pen level yet, but I am looking forward to it.
I notice after 5 pins, aside from being more difficult- it's a little trickier to reach further back with my pick while trying not to disrupt the other pins in the process. Learned my lesson last time, after spending an hour on a 6 pin, only to realize it had been unlocked early on, and I just had to jiggle the tension wrench a little because it had bound up.

Another fun one, was spending 20 minutes on a lock that picked several times under ~25 seconds. Turns out I had picked it already and the swingout arm was hitting the vise.
