I got this baby open in 5 minutes. My first picked dimple lock! Only 5 pins with some spools but its a start. Thanks for the tips & info guys
Congrats, G-lock! Feels great, doesn't it? Gordon
Thanks & it does! Picking a lock gives me a unique sense of gratification.
Congrats. Did you get the 14pc set or the kwik pick style? Just noticed Eazy getting through that keso. Congrats to you too

Made the pilgrimage to Fry's to get a couple more Titaliums - one 80/50 with a bit easier bitting than the one that's been giving me trouble - got it open, too! So sure enough, my previous Titalium's bitting was what was tripping me up. Also picked up an 80/40 which I'm going to work on tomorrow, then try to tackle my original 80/50 once again!

I also have 1 abus that is much harder to pick than all my others. I can pick it but something about that one makes it more difficult. Ive come to respect that lock & only bring it out when i want a fight.

Once you know it's possible and have done it, the frustration is so much less, even if you have trouble getting it open again. But when you have a lock like this Stanley that NEVER opens...lol

This Everest, which was a gift - there aren't any security pins in this one, the only other thing to do is to lift the check pin. I purchased another core like it, and pinned/made keys for that one. The only thing to watch out for is to use an appropriate clamp, otherwise the key may be deformed. This ABUS 83/45, which turned out to put up a fight after I put some challenging bitting in there. When I purchased it, it had 0 bitting, which is a good exercise for setting spools, but it's not the same as a fully combinated lock.

I just got 1 of those everest locks today. I'll probably give it a shot tonight.

This was a easy pick. All i did was leave a short hook in the bottom of the keyway to hold the check pin up while using TOK tension & a steep hook to pick the pins. All standard pins too. I put 1 standard 4 spools & 1 mushroom pin back in it

What kind of tension did you use? I have two old Best locks and I've only been able to rake one open quite a while ago, but nothing since.

I find it easiest to rake it to get most of the pins, then finish with a hook. Gordon
Just when you finally think you have learned it all, that is when you learn that you don't know anything yet.
