Nice - I'm working on one myself. Does anyone know if there's a difference between the Kwikset & Weiser Smartkey locks?
I'm pretty sure that the Weiser and Kwikset Smartkey locks are the exact same. Both companies are owned by Spectrum Brands which also owns Black and Decker.

That's what I thought but some hotshot elsewhere got into it with me insisting I was wrong.

Difference is the name. Weiser or Kwikset.

Just when you finally think you have learned it all, that is when you learn that you don't know anything yet.

Today was good for me. In addition to the Smartkey I also just got my first Mul-T-Lock opened. Now I'm moving on to the NE14H MT5+. I would be thrilled if I got all three of these open today. Tape is to prevent scratching the face with the tension wrench

Thank you! I had always thought they were the same. greengrowlocks wrote:Today was good for me. In addition to the Smartkey I also just got my first Mul-T-Lock opened. You and I are picking the same types of locks, it seems! I gotta say after seeing the flurry of super high level locks being picked lately, my recent accomplishments didn't feel good enough to share, lol. Still on the Smartkey but I received two MTL 7x7s in the mail this past week and am trying to get the hang of dimple locks. I just can't seem to either keep the pick straight, or stop getting my pick hung up on something inside. Only dimple I ever picked was a KABA with no warding and I'm convinced that was a fluke.

Yeah some of the members/moderators are very very talented (much respect to them) but I was happy with these so I figured I'd just post. I have had my smartkey for awhile now and in my experience today I found that heavier tension was needed to bind the pins. After each proper set pin I got rotation on the core. I'm not sure if you have the padlock version but the cylinders have at least two versions (there is a youtube video by Tumb3r that explains the difference) the revised version needs a special type of tension tool to be able to pick it. I think all the padlock versions are able to be picked with normal tools though. The Mul-T-Lock I found gives really good feedback and generally rotation on each set pin. I used two modified goso picks (one standard left flag, and another left flag with a very thin "flag" part to set the inner pins. ). The Mul-T-Lock also went into a very deep false set before the last pin was set. I was very keen on opening dimple locks before I bought any. If you want suggestions of dimple locks and difficulty here is the order in which I opened mine. All were under $20 except the Mul-T-Lock. Abus Marine 75IB/30, Masterlock 528 (Gun Lock), Abus EC75 75/60, and today the Mul-T-Lock Junior. I might have missed a couple but that is the correct order in which I opened them. I found in most of these locks that applying tension and sliding the pick front to back until its hung up on a pin is the easiest way to find the binder. Hope that helps, I haven't got the MT5+ open yet but I feel it's within reach. It feels very similar in feedback to the one I opened earlier. Good luck!

Thanks! I ordered the Abus Marine 75IB/50 - hope to get it open and use on my storage locker!

I think you'll find that the MT5+ is doable. My locks may be different than yours, but on mine the sidebar bound first, so I could concentrate on picking that first - if I shine a light in the keyway, I can see movement on the binding pins when I turn the core. The sidebar appears only to have 3 valid positions per slider, so that makes it a bit easier. My lock has the alpha pin set later in the picking process, somewhere in the middle of picking the outer pins. As you found, once the outer pins are set, it goes into a deep false set, so all that is left at that point is the inner pins. I have one of L0ckcr4ck3r's MT5+ cutaways, and that helped me to understand what is going on inside the lock. I never tried picking the cutaway, but I can see what goes on when the key goes in. The Lockpicking Lawyer has several videos of him opening variants of this lock, so those may be worth looking at. Good luck with your quest!

Wow! The MTLs are falling this week, nice work guys!
Would you be interested in trading for the MT5 tpark? I'm looking to try something above the interactive, but the budget does not permit buying one atm. Ive shot you a PM.

Army Ordnance Department Yale 840. Had the bitting via the blind code stamped on the plug, but picked open to confirm, as I only had one key blank & couldn't afford to cut incorrectly if the lock had been rekeyed.

I have an Eagle Ordnance Dept lock Robotnik Beautiful little locks, such lovely detail in the stamp. I paid maybe 5 bucks off eBay, and when I got it it was beat all to hell, someone had removed all bar 2 of the pins, and used solder to fill in all the pinholes, and gouging they had made removing them. I carefully removed all the solder, replaced the brass plugs and did my best to file out all the damage. I was real happy with the end result! Also, since the above pics, I have procured and replaced the aftermarket key with an original Eagle. adi_picker
