After a weekend of getting nowhere with my dimple locks, I felt pretty crappy. This morning before work, I managed to finally pick this Yale IC core (inside an American lock) open! Got it for $15 from a local locksmith who told me I'd never pick it. Also won an auction on eBay for 35+ locks, mostly consisting of Federals and Americans - 57 bucks for the lot. I'm gonna have a busy week...

I take it as a challenge. The previous locksmith I'd gone to told me I'd never pick a Medeco so naturally I worked harder at that and eventually got it.

Before getting a Medeco pin kit, took a couple of Medeco cores in to a local locksmith who deals with Medeco, and a couple of keys, and asked him to pin the locks to match the keys. (And to give me the old pins, of course). He was floored. The locks were clearly in a picked position (one a mortise, the other a payphone lock). He said he'd been dealing with Medeco since about 1980, and while he had heard rumors of people claiming to have picked a Medeco, until my walking in with the locks, he had never before seen a Medeco that had been picked. I locked and repicked the phone lock there in front of him, telling him that I am far from the first to have done so, and not very good at it. But he said it made him realize that maybe not all the videos of people picking Medeco locks were fake. I like it when someone says something can't be picked. Maybe they can't pick it. Maybe I can't pick it. But you can be sure that somebody somewhere can pick it. Gordon

I went to get a key cut for schlage everest a while back and locksmith told me i was full of it. Said its physically impossible to pick them, he has been locksmith for 20yrs. I tried so hard to be quiet, but didn't work when he said that. I said i bet my car i can open in front of you and you can pin it however you want. I said how do you figure you can slide a key in to raise the check pin, but not a pick? I laughed at him, He asked me to leave. We seem to be seriously lacking here for good locksmiths. Got a bunch of those pop a lock guys , prlly no licenses.

From what I've read, many locksmiths aren't so experienced in picking. I gather that they make most of their business off sales and I can understand that.
Al the same, I've picked high security locks, repinned and made keys for people and still wouldn't dare call myself a locksmith.

Am much the same way myself. I don't refer to myself as a locksmith, but my locksmith friends do. Most locksmiths don't have the time to pick unless it picks quickly. And since they work with locks all day, they don't feel the desire to spend spare time at home working with locks. Every time I go in to the lock shops that know me, they ask if I can pick a lock (or four) for them. Or they send me home with a few to open up and get back to them. Gordon

A GeGe. Can anyone identify the model? What GeGe have managed to do with just 5 pins here is amazing, at the very least! I picked on this for about 8 hours over 2 nights, and I just could not get an open. I could feel everything OK, could feel the sets and the serrations on the pins.. But just nothing! I caved a little earlier and found this. Less than a minute had passed after watching, and BAM. Success! So I guess the thanks go to Potti314, and Gordon for sending it to me. Mega cool! Again, if anyone knows the model I have here, please let me know, I would like to label my photo. Its a 5 pinner, with the standard GeGe serrated / spool driver, with the 2 large serrations. I think its an AP series, but unsure on exacts. adi_picker

Nice work on the MT5+ greengrow! Do these pick in a similar fashion to the Interactive, but obviously with extra sliders? Similar feel? I have one coming in the mail as we speak, and now I'm itching to have a crack at it! From the last couple of nights. L to R Medeco Biaxial KIK - MLAA JB Profile 6 Pin - Yale 6 Pin - ASSA 600/700? The ASSA Im quite proud of, as after I got it, I picked it easily and when I opened it up I found a whole lot of masters. Wizer sent me some blanks to suit (I had to shave them a little), and so I repinned it with the nastiest bitting I could come up with. Also, I filled it with a mix of 2 and 3 serration, and normal drivers, which worked really really well to foil me, and had me oversetting a lot of pins. MACs be , take a close look at the key and try to decipher all 7 cuts! Again, this is another that I would love to get a model on, I believe its a 6 or 700? 7 pins, all standard drivers orignally, but this could have been because of the master system. Another Medeco as well, Im trying to pick 1 or 2 a week to really get a handle on them. I picked CW and set the pins normally, raked them for rotation to put them into any gate, and then used the DCAP lifter to move them into the true gates.

FUN FACT! As you can see above, the profile of the JB spells out 'ML' for the Master Locksmiths Assoc of Aust, who commissioned and sold them. This is the case with the entire 'J' series, including JA, JB, JC, JD, JL & JM, and also the preceeding ML1 profile. If anyone out there has an ML1 with key, like the on in this thread, and would like to trade, please PM me, I would love to obtain one.

As soon as you mentioned sliders I knew I made a mistake, What I referred to as a MT5+ was actually only an interactive+, I stupidly misread the packaging. My bad I'm still fairly new at this but I should know what locks I own. Anyway I just ordered a proper MT5+ euro cylinder so hopefully it arrives soon and I'll let you know. Also got some other cool stuff coming a CISA RS3, and hopefuly an IKON WSW. Sorry for the confusion GGL

Hey greengrow, The Interactive's are still quite a pick mate How did you find it? I found that it was quite difficult to position myself on the pins to start, but once I had that down it wasn't so bad. Also, I think I commented that I felt it was more of a 5 pin lock, as once I got the outer's set, the inner's just required touching to put into position. Did you find the same thing? When does your MT5+ arrive? I should have mine before the end of the week with any luck, might be a race to see who gets an image up here first >:D Yeehaa! adi_picker
