Fort Tubular Padlock.

Image

Eight pins and no drive tab, so no place to tension the lock. Ball bearing has to be able to push in to the key from the top of the lock in the same place as there is a pin that needs to be picked.

Image

Had to go old-school to pick it. Yeah, we are talking ball-point pen cap.

Image

Image

And something to turn it after the pins are picked.

Image

Then had to make keys for it. But that is another story.

One of farmerfreak's challenge locks SPPed!

This is a mean little KIK! I don't wan't to spoil it for anyone else who may find this lock in their possesion, so I wont give away its secrets, but I will say that you will require good tension control!

I spent so much time on this lock it was beginning to feel hopeless. Even though I picked the sidebar a number of times I couldn't manage to get it open fully pinned. Earlier today I decided to make another pick that had wider jaws allowing it to grip and rotate the fingerpins more precisely. With this new pick I managed to get it open in a few minutes and on the first attempt. Unlike the 4800 this lock gave a large amount of plug rotation when the sidebar was picked. After that one pin needed to be lifted out of the countermilling and it opened.

I have a few new locks that should be arriving from Austria and Germany. Until they arrive I'll probably be working on the 6000.

I been working on this for about a week. The older style spools and countermilling were much more of a challenge compared to the newer ASSA locks. The newer Twins I could apply even heavy tension and pick through the countermilling. The 6000 required a significant amount of tension control, often having to release tension to the edge of dropping the previously set pins and sidebar.

The last Twin I need to finish the lineup is the Maximum+. If anyone has one they are willing to sell or knows where I can get one feel free to send me a pm.

ABUS 83/45 w/ Secure 6 'A1' Restricted Core

This would have to be the tightest keyway I have ever picked in. Pins sit directly on top of the wobble, very little space to work in.

So, a bit of a deviation I guess, I was going to do a couple more cramped keyway's in honour of keyway day, but I remembered I had been meaning to pick this one..

I got 2 of these recently, and they are a proper chunk of lock. Unfortunately, they are both missing the keyway cover, but for the price I picked them up for, I have little to complain about!
