What did you pick today?

Got my first Lishi pick/decoder yesterday. Grabbed an ignition lock for a Honda Sidewinder lock (for which the specific pick is made), and after about 20 minutes figuring out using the tool and the feel, got it.





Key looks like this: (obvously the lock is not in use, so I don't mind posting the pic)



Once the 'feel' of the lock and tool was figured out, it is quite easy to use and rather quick. Much faster than using a half diamond and tweezer-type tension tool!

Cool Tools . A while Back was asking if anyone made a Kwikset, Schlage, or Master Lock Decoder Like Lishi, Except just need to decode after Picked Open. Only thing Better If they made a 2 in 1(Pick AND Decoder) I am sure someone here or Mr. Lishi could do it? I am still in the Thinking Process?

One thing can be done is modify a set of Depth Keys, Take the ridge out between the spaces so they are straight across. Now with a picked lock, push the depth keys in, and first cut can be determined by which depth key makes it past the first pin, That is your first depth, then you could find out the rest Only if the cuts were Progressively Deeper?

it may only work on the first pin, depending on how large it is

Lockwood MT5+ VPIL



This is the Lockwood branded version of the MTL MT5+. Unlike their hobbled Twin variant, there is no difference between this and the 'real' MT5+. Although LW released it in Oz 5+ years ago, uptake has been very limited, so it is very rare to see one around.

I haven't checked in in quite a while, but I've been steadily acquiring and picking (got my first safe lock open a couple of months back as well). I must have a horseshoe in my you-know-what because somehow my "naughty lock" drawer is emptying out at a steady rate the last week and a half. Locks I've owned for over a year and have never been able to pick are suddenly opening.

I gave up on dimple locks for a few months, only being able to pick one or two. Well yesterday I sat down and got both sides of a MTL 7x7, my Abus Marine AND my MTL Jr. pin-in-pin open Once I got the hang of reverse tensioning on some of the pins that gave me lots of feedback and still wouldn't set, they weren't as difficult anymore.

I think it was my best day for lockpicking ever and now I'm hooked on dimple locks! I've had a MT5+ sitting around and may get the stones to take a crack at it. What other dimple locks would you guys recommend? (I also have a KABA Gemini but that's above my skill level ATM - will make another attempt to pick that this weekend)

Nice - I got one last year for the Chevy locks I have and can only get one open. I'm having a hard time figuring out why - if the locks are too gunked up with grease or what...

Nice job with the dimples. Have you tried a Sargent Keso? You can get a used one from Security Snobs really cheap.

My first guess on your difficulty picking the Chevy locks (can't go into details on the open forum with automotive locks) would be too much tension. However, having used only a Honda Sidewinder Lishi pick, can not say for certain.

I did get one on SS, forgot about that one (I believe it was your recommendation last year, maybe Squelch's) - same pin layout as the KABA gemini so I haven't been able to pick it yet. Maybe I'll take a crack at that.

As far as the Lishii goes, I'll try with less tension, thanks!
