The strange top pins have been the DOM thing for some time. I have some of the older type that actually had a fine strand of stainless steel wire.
The idea is for the pin to be deformed if picked and bind the cylinder forcing the cylinder to be then drilled.
They are not or usally not magnetic, however saying that they are using rare earth magnets as top pins as a form of resistance to bumping.
I think it would provide "some" form of resistance.
