Masterlock locks how many pins any security pins master lock

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Postby nik282000 » 27 Feb 2008 20:07

Has any one noticed that the guts of masterlocks seem a little more "loose" then other locks? Of the dozen or so locks I've had my hands on only the masterlock seem to have a loose cylinder. It can move deeper into the lock as well as side to side. Is this typical of many locks or just one make/model.

I have a masterlock No1 in my collection but have seen the same looseness 1 other masterlock but I don't know the number.

I'm fairly certain the 930 contains no security pins, however its commercial cousin the 930/6230 has five spool drivers.

My #930 has security pins - 5 spools. My #911 also has 5 spools. I've pulled the plug in both and verified. If you look at the videos of me picking both of those locks, you can very clearly see the spools pushing back as they're picked.

Up in my neck of the woods, the only spools I've seen in a 930 is the commercial grade.

This is fairly interesting, time to start buying locks in SC.

I don't know about other states. I don't think this is a SC specific thing. Maybe just a Lowes/Home Depot thing. I can't remember which one I got the #930 at. I got the #911 at Home Depot.

another thing may be how old they are(different years), did you guys both get them new...like maby one is a commercial and you dont know it, or can you tell the difference?

Also how can you tell if yours do or do not have pins have you taken them apart or just tell by the why they set?

I bought mine brand new. I'm not certain it's not the 930/6230. It was "Commercial Grade" labeled but that's all I remember.

I have taken mine apart. All 5 pins are spools.

Has anyone here picked a Master 'Magnum' 240? It's a little brass number, 4 pins. I am having a heck of a time picking it, and I am not experienced enough to tell if there are spools in it. Anyone know what its pin selection is? Am I way out of my league?

Sorry if I did a double post or re-did something already posted, dont think i did though...the 6pin IC are changable from 6-7pin and have anywhere from 16 to 23 keyways available so depending on the keyway may or may not have security pins, but since they are kinda uncommon I listed 'em as Secure.
Hope this helps somebody...I had fun writing it 8) Ohh and hey guys...let me know if I missed ANY    *falls dead asleep* :P
