Well it says that he has 100 more so I don't think it is. Did you contact him about it? He seemed pretty happy to give me one if I were to purchase more locks from him. Here is what he wrote:
kawachvz wrote:If you like the lock, go ahead and submit an offer to buy 2 more at $7.50 each and I'll include a change key. deal? total of $15

And yeah, I'm tapped out at the moment too. eBay is great at making me lose money when it comes to buying new locks.
Hopefully once I can afford it he will still be willing to give me the deal. Even if I don't have a use for these locks, I could probably give one away as a gift and maybe open up the other. The wiki page linked-to earlier describes where to drill to take off the back panel.

Yeah, he said that he only had a few and wasn't willing to part with them. Oh well, I have one.

I'm not sure you'd want to drill out the back panel. That makes the lock useless. You could probably use it at the default 25-0 setting. It's not like that's common knowledge.

Oh I meant drill it just so I could see the insides, for fun.

Ah. Yeah, that would be pretty neat.

Yeah! But it would be cool if it were possible to keep it in working order without the back. Like, if I could cut a piece of plexiglass to match the back panel as a replacement. Probably more work than it's worth but it might be fun.

You can mill out the sides of the padlock to make a pseudo-cutaway. A true cutaway that shows the working of the butterfly and fence/gate relationship is difficult because of the placement of the change key shutter components on the back plate.
