Aww, crap. Its a pin lock...I was wrong, unless another member can correct me. Now, why is the front out? Did you take it apart? You really havent pulled the plug out, so its not a removable core...Perhaps you should try forcing it in. Superglue comes handy...or buy a wafer lock, pick it so its broken, post back here so I can be happy :P

the front is out because i picked the lock and turned the core to open it and the whole face popped out. i didnt intend on it happening by any means tried forcing it in but the metal shiny part in the pickture hits a frame when i try to reset the pins so i can only turn thelcok about halfways back to normal.

Argh... no superglue. This is not something that should be forced in any way. Just Follow the Kwikset directions for rekeying, but without actually rekeying the lock at all. Basically, all you are after are the installation instructions

From the photos, it looks like an outside door with a key-in-knob lock, yes?

Nothing is broken, you have simply dissassembled it and removed the cylinder from the knob.

There will be a way to push down the shiny retaining clip on the top of the cylinder so it can go all the way back into the knob again and click back into place. Maybe you have to turn the keyway to a certain angle first, or maybe it needs a special key to do it like someone else suggested.

I have not seen that kind of lock, but if there is a brand name on it, you could go to their web site and they may have assembly/servicing instructions. Kwikset, for example, have plenty of that stuff on their website.

Well, until you said it was a wafer lock (on a residential front door), I was going to suggest it was a KW Titan in which the entire cylinder will pop out of the lock when picked because the little metal "thingy" is permitted to slide up into the cylinder and out of the way without a key bottom holding it down.

In order to put the cylinder back in, you need to pick it again until that piece of metal retracts again, put the cylinder back in the lock body and turn the plug back to the locked position.

Locksmiths usually use a cylinder removal tool to remove the cylinders for re-keying. The removal tool has a wide slot cut into the bottom of it to allow the retainer to retract after cuplicating the cuts on the working key.

My front door used to do that, pick the lock again, rotate the core to about 2-4 O'clock(you'll know you have it right because the silver tab will completely retract), then stick it back in the door and rotate it back to normal, if it still won't go back in the door try either locking or unlocking the handle.
