American Tubular Padlock Pin Set Questions

Postby Mike O » 10 Feb 2006 20:24

Is the same pin set used for American's tubular locks as is used in American cylinder padlocks? The pins in the tubular locks appear to be ordinary master pins, (flat bottoms and tops) although some are longer than you would expect to find being used as a master pin. I am rekeying some tubular locks and I was wondering if there is a special pin set for tubular.

Tubular locks do indeed use a slightly different type of pin.

Thanks Varjeal. I had this ominous feeling that was going to be the answer. Anyway... The hunt begins!

Pins for American Tubular locks

Postby Mike O » 14 Mar 2006 14:45

I am having trouble proceeding with my tubular lock rekeying project.

1. Any suggestions on where to obtain an American Tubular pin set would be greatly appreciated.

2. Is there a key gauge for American tubular lock keys?

I'm posting this as a reply since it pertains to the existing topic.
Thank you

Mike they are indeed a special pin kit . Try your local locksmith supply or any of the online suppliers.
key guage .. they are available, but the depth guage on a dial caliper works very well too
The 'generiac" tubular pin kit wil work for americans and other tubular locks, The American tubular pin kit is 1 cut off from the generiaic
ie 1 cut american = 0 cut gerneric ( might be the other way around)
