I bought a brinks shrouded shackle padlock, here is a link
http://www.lockcity.com/brinks/Products ... 20Padlocks
it appears to have an interchangeable core and I was wondering if anyone knew how to remove it or how to just take the lock apart in a non-destructive fassion. Thanks for the help.

Thanks, but there isn't a rivit holding the figure 8 thing in place. The core on the bottom looks very similar to a BEST IC core.

Hmm..interesting..if you open the lock, there should be an allen or phillips head screw exposed when the shackle is pulled out. Remove this screw and the cylinder and retainer will fall out.

When you say "when the shackle is pulled out" I assume you mean that the lock is open and that the shackle is not eniterly pulled out of the lock. I opened the lock and there isn't any sort of screw, all I can see is the ball bearing that is used to lock the shackle in place.

And nothing below the ball bearing if you press it out of the way? What type of key works this lock? Maybe it is an actual I/C.

Not really, off to the opposite side of where the ball bearing locks up with the shackle there is a small hole, but just leads down to this small hole in the side of the lock that I would guess is either for lubricating or to allow water to drain out.

sorry, I didn't see that you asked about the key, it looks like a standard key for a six pin lock, the wards are differnt than that of a BEST lock. If it were an actual I/C wouldn't there be a security problem with the change keys?

Hmmm...you would've been given a "control" key with the lock, and considering the price, that's unlikely to be I/C. Six pin lock, hmm? Can you post a pic of the key or link? It doesn't show on the site (if I remember correctly).

You're right, it is an AM4 keyway I believe, and six pin as you correctly identified. There has to be a retaining screw (somewhere) and I'm guessing that it's within the body of the padlock. I would still strongly suggest that it will be on the open end of the housing where the toe of the shackle comes out when the key is turned. I wish I had a breakdown on this particular model to know for sure, but that top aluminum/steel piece above the cylinder is actually a seperate component solely for the purpose of retaining the cylinder.
Keep looking, you'll find it eventually. Check for an allen, torx, or phillips screw head.
Any one else had one of these apart?

what does it really mean by "high security" pins on the brinks shrouded padlock?
also, how hard is it to pick? skill level?

There are probably spool/mushroom top pins. Fairly difficult to pick up the "feeling" on some locks. The more spools you have, the worse is going to be.
