Problem with lock...

Postby CSmith1128 » 29 Apr 2006 22:21

Hello.. I posted a topic before about locks sticking when I picked them...
I picked a pin and tumbler lock to my closet and when i turn it, it turns halfway then stops. I was told it was because the pins get set into the bottom of the lock. However, it doesn't seem like this is happening because the lock stops, but i can turn it backwards with no problem, so it doesn't seem like pins are setting again. If they were setting wouldn't it not allow me to turn it back again? Is there another possible reason for the lock not being able to complete the full turn and unlocking the door?
Thank you.

the pins do in fact get pushed back down on the bottom of the keyway when turned 180 degrees, some locks don't have this happen. however I know that at least two of my practice locks do this. Just put the flat end of a pick into the keyway, push up, and the tension wrench should turn the plug the rest of the way.

alright... so i pick the lock. then turn it 100 degrees and stick the flat end in the opposite side that i picked.. the pins are in the top, so i would pick them, then i turn it and stick the flat end in the top, or the bottom of the keyway?

Bottom

l_ l Ok, the "V" represents the pins pushing into the bottom of the
_l l lock. Push up on the pins with a flat side of a pick (or anything
l _l flat for that matter) while turning the plug with the tension
l l wrench in the same direction you would normally turn the
l l actual key. This should unlock the lock.

I tried what you told me, but it did not work. I tried several times, but nothing works... Is there another reason why they could get stuck?

This is a wild guess, but can there be anything wrong with the cam?
And also, does the lock function normally when used with the key?

Yours,

When you pick it push your long end of your wrench into the keyway as far as it will go then turn the keyway,

Other than that any chance of a front and back picture in focus?

i do not have a camera so i cannot take pictures... all that i can tell you is that it says russwin on it. I turn it half way, then it gets stuck... then i pushed the pick all the way into the back and push up and something moves up, then it moves about a quarter of the way and stops and does nothing... does this help at all?
