Fascinating collection

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Fascinating collection

Postby Phatphish » 10 May 2006 11:55

I found this page while looking for older padlocks.

http://www.padlock.s-a-w.net/lockidx.htm

I hope you'll agree it's quite an interesting collection.

Nice link indeed. Found some really crazy locks there.
However, I wished there was a little bit more information about the locks.

Router

Postby CVScam » 10 May 2006 19:20

I hope the owner of that padlock websight has changed the default password on his router. I clicked on one of the links and a Router login screen came up. It looked just like my old netgear login, I sure wouldn't want anyone to have remote access to my router.

You should drop him an email if you think there's something wrong with security.

Also check the links section where I found www.lockcollectors.com
Offers some more background info.

P.S. Ever seen a padlock which shows the time when it was locked? :)

No. Interesting thing. I have only seen locks that automatically unlock after a set time, and at first I thought this might be one...

Some of them look like they are lever padlocks as opposed to wards and tricks, but I wonder how many.

I also wonder whether your typical 19th century consumer preferred a "trick lock" with wards, or a 4-5 lever padlock that actually offers some security.

Wow

Those are some interesting locks! I'd really like to know more about how they work....

Just out of curosity, have any of the moderators or administrators ever though about having a new section just for old locks? I think it wouldn't be a bad idea.

He has an amazing lock collection only a small part of which is on the net. To amass stuff like this you need LOADS of $$$$$$$ (or pounds in this case).

Some (if not all) of the mail locks the US postal service uses to secure registered mail do.
