Walsco security pins?

Postby NewcombAll » 2 Aug 2006 23:48

ok well it's come time to ask a question. I've been messing around with lock picking for awhile now and never needed to bring up any new topics here, usually i'm not even aware of the common topics people have come across with locks because i'm such a novice. But anwyay I recently aquired a Walsco padlock. It appears to be a 4 pin tumbler and it is giving me a very hard time. Should i assume this lock has security pins? Also i've never heard of walsco before, what is there reputation for security? I found one previous post about a walsco and he had the same question however no one answered it. I have spent almost 4 hours on this lock and the worst part is when i start to give up i go and pick the shlage on my front door for a self esteem boost. seems liek they're making bicycle locks more secure than our front doors.

Whats your area?

Do you have a picture of the lock and key by any chance?

On a 4 pin lock its touch and go if it would have a security pin or not,

The way to see is to see if the plug is turning back a bit when you continue to lift the pins up, if this is the case you are false setting a security pin if they are indded spools,

Yes, some more info on where your located would be helpful. About the lock, if one or some of the pins that seem to bind just makes a clicking feel and sound while lifting but doesn't turn the cylinder in the opposite direction of torque that much, that would be a serated security pin.

i'm lcoated in the US, I don't have a key to it or a camera to use. thanks for the help though...I'll just keep working at it assuming it has some security pins, I may just end up getting frustrated and cutting it up to see

Well destroying a lock because you cant pick it isnt very constructive, why dont you just go buy an easier lock that you know doesnt have security pins and then move back to this one once youve got a bit better,

well I've never seen security pins so i figured i'd try to make a gut away of it and if I mess it up then atleast I get a first person view of some security pins.

Instead of destrying the lock just look at Matt Blaze's crypto papers on the differant types of pins out there,
