Newb in trouble with lock

Postby nbie32 » 8 Nov 2006 18:03

Hi everyone,
I am a newb and just started getting into the hobby of lock picking. I have been playing around with basic locks for some time, but I just purchased a vending machine from a surplus auction (pepsi machine without key) for my rec room (AKA Garage). My wife tells me to just drill the lock and replace it, but I told her I was going to pick it and get it open without power tools (put foot in mouth here). So now it is a bet between us. Unfortunately, I have no idea where to begin on this lock - nor what kind of lock it is. Any help would be appreciated. I know the pics are not that great, but from what I can tell, there is the ziz zag that you can see and then behind that there are 4 pins on the top, 4 pins on the bottom that look like : (see pic 2 for bottom row)

uuuu

It is a tubar lock. Picking information for this lock is considered an advanced topic.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!
