so im new to this and i know how to pick but knowing and picking are a little different. i have some lock with no luck picking them. i dont have to tools to dismantle a lock my self and i want to see what im doing. so my question is would getting one of these be a good idea.

nope... visual aid rarely helps learning how to pick and i almost guarntee that youhave the tools to dissasemble a lock it's not that difficult, most can be done with a screwdriver and the key

The cutaway locks are great for showing how a lock works. The only valuable thing I learned from the one that I bought was that you don't have to move the lower pins very far in most cases to get the upper pins to set. The main drawback to these cutaways is that they teach you how to pick using visual feedback. The key to learning how to pick is understanding the feedback you feel in your hands through the pick and tension wrench. If you really want to see what's going on with the pins as you manipulate your pick, a cutaway will provide the visual. The true art of picking comes through visualizing what is happening in the lock by what you feel in your hands.

enough tension to over come the spring and no more.....
deadbolt as in the type found on a door

go to the home despot and look for the cheapest deadbolt you can find
