PVC Window Lock

Ok so my dad fitted a new PVC Handle and Modded a few things to the Frame etc so that he wouldnt have to spend like another £100 odd.

And well now i have this what look slike a 3 wafer lock.

The first time i picked it i couldnt get it open lol and its only 3 wafers!

Can that thing hold up to a decent degree of brute force attacks?

I forgot to mention that you cant actually use Lock picking to break into Windows because the lock is most of the time on the inside.

why would he have to have spent 100 odd

if you had took it to your local lockie he should have had a key for it pre-cut,

an if not a new handle wouldnt have been £100 unless its something really special..

Unfortunatley its the norm when you get upvc windows installed,

The funny thing is that all the windows will work from the same key including all the other houses in the street that have the same make lock,

You buy the key for the make of lock and it will fit lol or at least it always seems that easy to me,

Picking them is a joke, basically putting anything in the keyway with tension on unlocks them,

These locks are to lock the windows? But the key can only be used from the inside? I'm not sure we really have an equivalent in the states. I would really like to know more about these in general. And do you all really hang PVC door and windows as a standard? Most people I know have a wood door/windows, of course the quality isn't always great, but there are a large number of solid wood doors.

Oh, and about one key for a variety of wafer locks... one of the most comon keys in the US is code CH751 cut on a Y11 blank. These locks are on filing cabinets, storage cabinets, display cases, gas (petrol) caps, pretty much everything with a wafer lock. This is practically a magic key for wafer locks.

As regards the wafer locks, its a differant profile normally for each manufacturer so its not really that quite as bad,

Unfortunatley on new builds it is the norm i think but i wouldnt have upvc and much favour wood,

The handles are on the inside of the window, the lock stops the handle moveing, nothing more, easily forced,

The locks are on the inside just like every other locking thing in the world, if the lock was on the outside it would be a handle and not a lock

Real window locks arent much better though to be honest with a lot of them just being a thumb turn your screw down

i think this type of lock is more to stop children opening the windows.

Ive never understood window locks full stop to be honest,

Once the glass is broken there is a hole pretty much the size it will be once the window is open or at least the same amoutn of useable space after the hinged edge is taken into account,

Saying that i guess theres much less noise envolved with climbing through a window,

My suggestion is to have pits with spikes at each window, youll catch them then
