American 5200gl

Has anyone had any luck picking the American 5200gl I am a total newb to lock picking but I had an interest since I was 10, using touch to open combolocks and was pretty good at that but can't do it with the new combolocks. Any way I have an enormous supply of the American 5200gl's and would like to start learning to pick on them. If someone could please try and classify the difficulty rating on this lock I would appreciate it. If it is too hard then I will purchase a master padlock or go and try the kwikset locks on my house for starters.

The 5200GL lock was designed to comply with US Govt. specifications for low/medium security padlocks. Knowing American, you probably have some serrated pins in there, very difficult to pick in general, probably very difficult to learn on. I suggest starting with a nice Master #3 padlock, or a Kwikset deadbolt. The Kwikset will allow you to dissasemble the lock, and learn by adding in pin stacks. On a side note, considering your "enormous" supply, would ya mind sending a few my way?

I actually have one. It's very, very tough, and has spool pins as well as serrated. Start with a Master lock and a Kwikset, then maybe do a couple more intermediaries before starting on your Americans.
