Hey I'm currently living in an apartment and my friends are mischevious pickers and bumpers. Well the thing is they've learned how to pick and bump my lock and I was wondering if they make security pins for a 5 pin Kwikset so it'll atleast deter them from entering my apt. This weekend when I went out of town I broke a key off in the lock so they couldn't bump or pick it but I could use my key extractor but somehow they managed to get it out with a nail and a plastic fork. Thankfully my best buddy was there and said he wasn't going to let them go in because he promised me he wouldn't. So yeah there's my story and I would appreciate any and all advice. BTW I know I should get better friends.

nope not in a kwikset... but what will deter them is the cops... the next time they pull that crap then call the cops and have them charged with felony b+e and possession of tools

What he means is carrying picks and bump keys. It's illegal to have them on your person in specific states if not all.

Not "illegal" in all states to carry them, but it is illegal to use them with out permission making a simple trespassing into a felony.

The 6 pin Kwikset UltraMax locks uses one or two spool pins. But the tolerances are still very sloppy in those locks that it is easy for almost anyone to learn how to bypass them.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

If they are bumping them then this seems more of a problem as not only can they get in really fast they do it too many times and you may not be able to get in...if they are doing it just for thrills like it seems then they are most likely bumping it anyhow. You may wish to get an abloy type lock or even just put a lever padlock on as well as your curent deadbolt. This would stop them unless they have the knowledge of such locks also. As for stoping bumping even using the new smartkey would be a good idea, though i don't know how much they cost, despite their flaws they seem not to be an easy pick and are increadably bump resistant.

The Smart Key locks are pretty cheap as long as you don't get the Biometric lockset. I got a single sided Smart Key deadbolt from Home Depot for about $27. And they are a pain to try to pick.

I agree with UWS. If you know who is doing it, put a stop to it.
Guess what? It's not a joke if you don't think it's funny. Maybe a call to the police would help them see your point of view.
Not to mention, after they damage your lock from bumping it, you have the responsibility of replacing it. So now their "joke" is costing you your hard earned money.

Try installing a bucket of water on a string above your door. Or get new locks. I bet if you installed an inexpensive Yale cylinder, they wouldn't be able to find the right blank or cuts.

Man you beat me to it.
Calling cops on your friends, or even if they're barely your friends, isn't always the first thing to jump to.
To quote Dave Chappelle, "I keeps it real".
Perhaps you can find a nice place between Raccoon's suggestion, and the above picture .

Or at the very least tape the grenade so the spoon can pop off - otherwise it won't work .

Shhh, I didn't want him to actually DO it. Actually, I was just too lazy to draw it right and just assumed one would leave some space under the tape for the lever .

Apartments only allow certain locks so he cant change it. even when he does have to replace he will most likely have to pay the apartment complex to replace it. The apartments have all the same locks so the owner can have a master key.
