Metal files? How? Zomg.

What kind of files do I need to help make a cutaway lock? I got some cylinders and a padlock with the pin locations kind of marked with little brass circles on the side, basically telling me exactly where to file away.

I don't have any machine tools, so I was hoping a file would be enough since I'm not like cutting something out of a doorknob? :< But what kind?

invest in tools and you'll never regret it.

any high carbon steel files (not diamond files) will go through brass but you're probably going to have to buy large rough files and small fine files or else plan to spend a LONG time filing.

i would assume using a triangular file to start off the cuts and once you have the groove to guide the long cylindrical file and then use that.

First, use a dremel to remove as much material as possible. Then file, and then sand.
