Some kind of ancient padlock

Hey, just got a camera for xmas, thought i'd share some photos of a really old looking padlock.

not sure what the name for this mechanism would be but the cutouts on the key compress notched "springs" so they can slide past notched housing.

It's not really a warded lock because it couldn't easily by bypassed by a skeleton key.

not mine actually, it belongs to my shop and i have no idea how many years we've had it. I love the shape of the key though, but I think I'd run screaming if anybody brought one in and asked me to copy it.

That lock is hand made, you can see peen marks on the key bow and the art on the side of the thing is handcrafted, possibly from china or from afganistan,persia. look for the antique locks site or even oldlocks might have some information.
