Cheapy Combination Master Locks

I was curious if any of you knew about an old master lock trick; where you could discern the combination by pulling on the padlock and turning the dial until it stopped to the right. This, when the dial stopped, would give you the first number within about 5 digits. You would reset the lock and put in the number and use the same process to find the other 2 numbers. I know this is a dated trick and that master has fixed the flaw in their locks that allowed it to happen, but it was still a fun to use as a magic trick while it lasted.

Has anyone else heard of this trick? If so do you remember about how many years ago they fixed it?

It's not much of a magic trick.... and they did fix that one, from what i have seen they didn't add too much security, they did put in false cuts in the wheels though, so there is apparently a "new" way to find the combo, rather cut down on the total combinations.... its all over youtube so i am not going to get into specifics here (no need).

Fastest most reliable way to open a master combo lock is still shimming (also all over youtube), and that is in my opinion more of a magic trick then sitting there and rotating the dial and noting numbers.... Then again it's just my opinion.

Ooh, another question, which combination lock are you talking about? master makes a few kind, from what i gather you are talking about the common locker combination with one dial that you get to rotate right then left then right again (or in the other direction, i always get it wrong, need to have the lock in front of me) but you get the ggist of what i am talking about... Or are you talking about a pad lock with 4-5 dials? different ways to open them btw...

I was referring to the locker type lock. I have never seen the other with multiple dials.

It's not "magic" i suppose. But It still left everyone wondering "oooh. how'd you do that" With shims you have to hide them and if someone sees them they get too curious.
