I believe cruciform is the word you are looking for. As for tools to pick it I'm sure you will get lots of advice from others but as a responsible member of LP101 I would like to advise you against picking a lock that is in use. You can damage the lock rendering it useless. They you will need to spend alot of money on a locksmith to fix your mistake. It's better for you to go buy a lock to practice on.

They are indeed called cruciform locks. do NOT pick that thing. unless the pins are offset then it will lock up after a quarter turn. that looks like there are covers that slide back as u insert the key and god knows if the key would work after a quarter turn. so if u got lucky you could tell fudge the lock.

exactly like any other lock. the key way is in the center to give equal space for 4 rows of pin stacks at 12/3/6/9 o'clock.

cruciform

Postby raimundo » 25 Jan 2008 12:01

cruciform locks are used in brazil, (papaiz) and in france, ukraine, that I know of. there are cruciform picks.

to those who are beating him up on the rulz, consider that he did also show the key, meaning it probably is his own. Of course, showing most keys would be a security breach, but the cruciform needs to be shown on all angles.

Look for cruciform picks at european or asian locksmiths tools suppliers,

Does anyone have access to cruciform blanks, I have a job that will require some, its a second hand strongbox. not a safe. but a formidable metal box. If I can make a key, they guy will have some more of these to be done. they are discontinued coin boxes from old city buses, the new ones are miwa locks, not cruciform.

cross locks

Postby raimundo » 1 Feb 2008 11:07

Most of the cruciform locks I have seen were from brazil, although I know they are made in France as well and I have know someone from the Ukraine who carries one, its the key to his home over there, its the longest cruciform key Ive seen.

most of the locks do not have pins in all four directions, in fact one of the directions is thicker on the key, this is for properly aligning it, it won't go in any other way. the three remaining directions will have from 3 to 5 pins.
this is why I have always wondered about those cross picks, where do they put the tension? Who here has some experience with these? Wrenchman?
