Just got my ASSA Twin ;)

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Just got my ASSA Twin ;)

Breakdown to follow later :D

I undone the rear lever (not a bar like UK) popped the key in & pulled the slug out.

All the pins & springs fell out, as I suspected they would....but I re-built it in 5 minutes :)

I've got 3 normal keys & 1 master (which Squelchtone very kindly sent along with the lock)...I've re-pinned it to the master only for the time being because the little discs were p*ssing me off (kept getting stuck to my fingers).

So....I've got to take it apart again to make all the keys work, and also to cleanse the internals as its a bit sticky. When That's done, I'll post a breakdown for you all to see :)

Super macro focus, as with my KABA ;)

I thought change keys were for locks you can re-pin without taking the lock apart? Like the one that was on here which uses a thin slither of metal to poke in the lock to re-key it.

I always saw a master key as one that opens all locks in your range, but each of those locks have their own low level user key which only opens that lock & none of the others.

I didn't go all out on this like with the KABA breakdown......I think a lot of this lock is self explanatory.

I had zero knowledge of sidebars until today when I pulled the lock apart. I think its a superb system, in fact....its so good, I would quite happily have this lock on my front door without the top pins & just the sidebar.

Very nice breakdown! Good luck to you picking it, I haven't been able to get my 6000 open yet. Both the drivers and sidepins are nastier than those of the v-10 in my humble opinion. Those pics really show this off :-)

Thanks :)

I've already tried picking it with just the side bar. Its so easy to build it back up, I'll even start with setting 1 pin, then 2 and so on.

The main pins are relatively easy to set without the side bar..

Yet another nice breakdown. An easy trick I use for taking photos on side shots is to place a white sheet of computer paper behind the subject it will create a very nice effect (just lean it against a cup or what have you).

I am happy you like the twin they are very nice locks:)

ASSA is a real pain in the butt to pick. Even after you take the sidebar out of the equation leaving only the standard pin stacks its real hard.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

Thanks for the nice comments :D

I'm really in to making the breakdowns now.....just need more locks now lol

I'll keep in mind to put a white piece of paper when taking the side shots for the next time ;)

that looks quite nasty to pick. I have never picked a lock with a side bar. Does the sidebar have to be set before the pins?

Hi SnowyBoy,

Top notch pics! The key you have in the pic is the one stamped MK24 master for that system, and what we're calling the change key is what a user (low level employee) would use to open their office door. (It doesn't have anything to do with changing the lock out, and I think it comes from how many bitting changes (differs) you can have on a large system, but I'm sure our full time locksmith friends here can elaborate on this) I think you might be thinking of a Control key to pull the core out of a BEST style SFIC lock.

The SmartKey by Kwikset and the U-Change locks use the thin piece of metal but you dont need a special key to do it, just the current key that opens that lock, the thin metal thing releases the bar that sets the pins to the current key, and then you remove that key insert a new key, turn the lock back to 12 oclock and it locks the pins to the new keys cuts.

Nice pics and breakdown! =)

Thanks Squelchtone....am very pleased with the lock indeed :)

I'm having a bit of a problem re-keying it so both keys work though. I can only get either or to work.

Those little spacer discs are a right pain in the backside :(

I just bought an ASSA 6000 from Squelchtone for use in my recording studio. He said they were used but wow, they must have been in a hospital or something. The lock's condition is like new! Thanks!

I spit shine all my locks before sending them out. =) and you can thank AT&T for taking such nice care of their corporate headquarters locks.

glad you like it, and are putting it to good use. (if you need more locks, or keys, lemme know)
