Maybe practice is a bad thing...

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Maybe practice is a bad thing...

Yeah I got my a** kicked by a stupid Schlage BC-360 today. I burned through the last dozen I saw in 2 minutes or less before finding this forum and decideing to practice SPP. Today with a ton of practice this weekend I got stomped hard. What kind of crap is that??

I have never seen a lock turn as far as this one did when the spools dropped in. I think I was getting every single spooled pin in a false pick every time. I got in the wrong direction the first time I tried but the plug spinner locked it up again and then I couldn't get passed the mushroom pins in either direction.

SPP?? Nope, Rake??? Nope!! SPP again?? Nope!! Gun??? Nope!!

Finally after 15 minutes of progressive agression in my head and smiles on the outside I finally go for the bump key and the stupid thing went first shot. ARGHHHHH!!!!!

The gooning method wins again :(

Practice SPP now, don't worry about it later. You could just rake/bump now, but you'll be playing catch-up with yourself once you get to harder locks. It's the same thing with drum rudiments. I really didn't bother to learn them when I started drumming, but now I have to devote time to practicing rudiments often instead of more advanced stuff.

Yeah I know man. You can only "practice" for so long on someones else's time and I did learn all the "other" methods first. That is the problem now. An old-timer that was around when I was getting started got all bent out of shape when I was handed a gun and I couldn't figure out why. Now I know. Like I said I was fully aware of the false shear from the mushrooms, but even with the exact knowledge of what was going on I could not get around it. This stupid lock went to a false shear no matter what I did and it went further than I had ever seen (half past 1ish).

I was pretty much going nuts all day getting around to different jobs and with that and the triple espresso that I had about an hour earlier didn't help either.  Stress and exteme caffine are not the beginings of success in this game. I got home cleaned some cages and then tried a lock with spooled pins here and got it no problem. Oh well. Back to my relaxation (cage cleaning)
