Master Lock - NightWatchâ„¢ Deadbolt

*New* NightWatchâ„¢ Extra Nighttime Security

The Master Lock NightWatchâ„¢ deadbolt is the ONLY deadbolt that prevents an intruder from entering your home...even if they have your key.

this is a pretty cool lock:

Reminds me off this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifiXyHLunqI

Too bad everything they listed could be eliminated by using a smartkey lock and/or not giving your house keys to an auto mechanic.

So they pass this crap off as a replacement for decent key control? Psssh.

I recently replaced the locks on my house with one of these, they are pretty cool. I dont give out keys to my house so i have good key control, but it gives the wife extra peace of mind at night especially when i am not home for some reason. I didnt even realize it had this feature till i installed it.

Interesting: I'd seen an ad for one, but hadn't looked closely.

From looking at the mechanism, it's a fairly simple idea. The thumbturn knob is connected to the cylinder by a sleeve that surrounds the cylinder's tailpiece. When you pull the thumbturn knob out, it traps the sleeve into a pair of dimples in the lock case... and, with the sleeve jammed, the cylinder's tailpiece is also jammed, preventing you from turning the key. (See Figure 7 in the patent diagrams.)

That is correct, really a simple device when you look at it, kind of odd that nobody ever thought of this before.

well i checked the prices online. its about 30 for the regular deadbolt and about 50 for the single cylinder deadbolt set. is thats about the same price as their regular deadbolt? even if it was a lil extra, still the extra security and piece of mind are worth it

Yeah, but isn't this bump/pick proof? So long you absolutely don't want anyone to come in, this seems like the way to go. It would make nondestructive entry just about impossible.

Unless you know where the screws go to hold the lock on the door and drill them out.

Wouldn't that constitute destructive entry, or is there something I'm missing?

Yeah, I realized a little too late that I probably shouldn't have posted that.

This lock is very easy to pick and bump. It's only secure if the nightwatch feature is activated to deactivate the tailpiece. For that someone must be inside to set it. Bad luck for anyone getting home late, their key won't work. The lock is not well made and would not be difficult to get past. For a basic lesson, stay away from any lock that uses a KW1 keyway. They are great for picking, not so great for protecting the ones you love.

Sucks if the door has a glass pane and/or window beside it. :?

Good idea none the less.

So.... If you go away for the weekend that dodgy tradesman can still get in? I would never just rely on a dead bolt. I have a Chubb lever on my front door aswell as my dead bolt for this reason.
