Where can I get security pins?

Postby ggenovez » 8 May 2008 7:26

Hi all,

Over the weekend I picked up a Defiant deadbolt from home depot.

Lock is really easy to pick. Probably good to get off the ground but after a day or 2 you'll need to upgrade.

So I was thinking, if I get some security pins and longer key pins I could make this more challenging. Right?

Or are there any other locks that have security pins in them. Something inexepnsive?

Thoughts?

Thanks

seeing as you live in America, there are a lot of recommendations I have seen on forums such as these on what locks to go on to when you need to get into security pins (brinks shrouded comes to mind... there are freak loads more just can't remember at the moment (mostly because I can't access them in NZ, so it isn't so relevant to me)

Other than that, you can buy packs of 100 pins for about $5 from certain places... (someone can chime in with an example - I don't know... NZ thing again... sorry) or you can make good friends with a local locksmith, tell them why you want them and how many you want... if they don't mind the fact that you pick locks they should sell them to you okay... theres also trying to organise a trade with someone here on the forums ^^,

LOTS of ways... especially in the America/Canada region
I'll get others to post shop names and lock names you can look more specifically at... But from what I gather if talking to the locksmith goes well and they think your hobby is cool you can get a lot out of it, including cheap/free locks etc and someone to talk technical stuff with, or show you how to do things...

I don't know how longer key pins would make it harder... just means you have to push the pin less for it to set.
All your locks are belong to us.

You can get them here, http://www.lockpicks.com/index.asp?Page ... ProdID=523

I have one and it is great. Different sized spooled and serrated drivers. It helps make a boring kwikset into a fun challenge again.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

Thanks for the replies.

Eyes_Only, I like the set, but I'm looking for a low cost alternative, at least for now.

Stabby,

The reason I'm looking for longer pins is the lock I have right now, looks like they really skimped on cutting the key. Only 2 pins hold it locked and they're short, so I can usualy pop it in under 30 seconds.

Also, I'm just using a short hook, are there any other picks needed for security pins?

Thanks again...

yeah security pins and high to low pin combinations are resistant to bump keys and would definately increase the security of the lock
