I got this site from one of the new members looking for picksets, and decided to browse their shop. Upon finding the handcuff section, i came across a question.
They say their models are "Wesson Model 100 or 300 (hinged) nickel handcuffs. Double Lock or Push Pin". I thought pushpin was double locking. Am I wrong?

I think the best way to answer this it to get arrested. Then you can examine the cuffs and let us know.

Hi Mutzy,
I live in Springfield, Massachusetts where Smith & Wesson's factory and offices is located. I'll give them a ring on Monday and ask a factory rep.

I have a few pairs of S&W Cuffs, they are all double lock but one model has a small oblong opening that you stick the metal tip of the key in and slide to double lock it another pair has the little pin you push with the metal tip. Maybe this is what they are talking about.

^ yeah that sounds like the push pin mechanism. The 'lockpicking for the new millenium' dvd has a clip on handcuffs, but seems to indicate that push pin design was a deadlocking mechanism. If so, what are the other 'deadlocking' handcuffs? I'd probably only need the push pin ones imo. (for picking something different... I don't have a girlfriend yet, so it's not for that use).

One type of double locking is to slide the nipple of the key across the cuff dragging the dead locking bar into place.
Another type is where you push in a pin on the side of the cuff to engage that same bar.
An there is one where you turn the key in the key whole to apply the double locking feature.
As for buying a pare just to pick, they are not worth the money, luggage locks are more of a challenge. Seriously, go buy a pair at walmart. It will save you a load and it the exact same principal (minus the double locking) the only difference being the walmart pair have a larger key whole.
However, if you have a GF/wife, they could be well worth more money then you paid for them.
I have 2 cuffs and 2 shackles (same thing longer chain and bigger cuff ring), I might make them into cut aways as they are no longer used

I've done a bit of luggage lock picking/ decoding (for the combination ones) but i want to get some handcuffs 'cause i can' and for the bragging rights of 'i can pick handcuffs'.

make sure you get extra keys. Losing one in the dark is a... um... breech of security

Okay, back on topic for all of you.. And try being in the dark, blindfolded, searching for a key.. all the while still leg shackled to her, and her hands are fastened to the headboard.. fun times..
Regarding the double lock and deadlock feature, they are one in the same. When the secondary lock (double lock/deadlock) is engaged, which is SUPPOSED to be each and every time handcuffs are applied, this feature makes it so:
1. the handcuffs cannot- I say again- CANNOT be tightened more on the wrists
2. If someone is attempting to pick the keyway, they have to double pick it.. since to unlock the double lock, you have to go one way, than the other.. well on most handcuffs, there is a few pairs which operate a little different.
3. If someone is trying to "shim" double locked handcuffs, the locking teeth drop bar will not move, thus not allowing shimming to take place.
Hope this clears anything up.. Oh, and I recommend making "handcuff socks" if you don't own fuzzy handcuffs.

lol, thanks unlisted.
I figured that would probably be the case. By the looks of it, that's what the point on the key is for, right?
So the SO ones should be fine? ( Shown here)

Dangit. SouthOrd doesn't ship their knives/ninja stuff/handcuffs overseas.
Anybody know of a supplier that ships handcuffs overseas? (Or one in Australia)

Go to your local Army Surplus store.
They sell from ok, to decent quality cuffs.
As far as bragging rights go, you MAY be able to
pick your way out of a set of cuffs that
you put onto your own wrists, but if you want to really
show off, get someone to put them on you firm, behind your back,
with your thumbs pointing behind you and the keyways pointing up.

Mutzy, do you know if someone can send the handcuffs to Australia without being a problem for customs? otherwise go to Mitchells, they sell camping stuff, compound bows, knifes, batons and hand cuffs, I know though that to be able to buy them in Darwin you needed a security licence, but im sure that there is a way around it
