Schlage cutaway

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Schlage cutaway

My first cutaway actually came out pretty decent :)

Excuse the blurriness - cheap phone camera.

Tools used:
1. Craftsman rotary tool (the tool itself is very good construction, however, I would probably buy a Dremel accessory kit if you're serious about metal working)
2. Craftsman vice
3. Gloves
4. Goggles

Lock works and picks like normal. Will definitely help learning this lock (4 security pins) and I have a unmodified duplicate to practice blind.

Didn't think it would be so easy to make a cutaway. Only tip I have is what others have already said - take away a little bit of metal, re-examine the cuts and then take a bit more away.

The schlage cylinders are perfect for making these (no excess metal and metal is very soft). Btw, if I want to do the same for a master lock #1 can I use the same cutaway discs or do I need something tougher?

You may need to get something a little tougher if your using the plain small cut off wheels. If you're using the fiber reinforced cut off wheel you will be fine.
