Bicycle locks

Postby nothumbs » 2 Jun 2008 17:51

I'd like to hear from others on their recommendations/choices for a bicycle lock. I'm open to a padlock/cable separate components or a unified lock. I'm considering an Abloy padlock but don't yet know what it would mate to; cable, chain, other? What do all of you use/suggest?
It's a good day when I learn something new.

Properly hardened chain to go with the Abloy padlock, not the regular zinc coated chain available everywhere that can be cut with nail clippers :D

I would suggest PL330 with a Classic cylinder.

I have been watching eBay, and found a nice lock with square link chain, which is harder to cut due to it's shape. The lock was very flimsy, IMHO, so I drilled out the round tube clip used to hold the lock to the chain. Once I had the "plain" chain, I am using a Master Titanium series padlock w/ the rotary shackle. The links just barely fit into the shackle opening, so I think that will stop people from using a bolt cutter to cut the shackle. I'me even thinking about running some aircraft cable through the links to make them even harder to cut.

Is this overkill? I do love my bike.
