Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

interesting residential type locks in the usa?

so scary as this is, i've got a purchase agreement for a house. closing in a week or two.

of course this means that i'm going to be pulling cores as soon as i have the keys legally in my gurbby little paws, however since i'm going to be replacing the locks (probably just repinning day of closing) as they're pretty old, i figured it might be fun to put something more interesting than a kwikset with a few spools in. (n.b. this is mostly for my own entertainment as there are several misc security problems with the house, that will be dealt with)

are there any locks that will not be impossible to get extra keys for, or absurdly priced, but would be more entertaining, and reasonably readily available in the usa?

ideally i'll need 6 cores, possibly with mastering capabilities, 3 sets of 2 keyed alike (so that in theory, i can someday convert the basement into a mother-in-law flat and use its separate entrance, and have the garage it's own thing, but maybe a master for me for all 3 pairs.)

If the hardware it really old you will likely have to replace the whole lock. HS cores for the most part only fit into better quality locks than you can get at the home depot. The cores will fit into other locks, but the lock will not work properly because the throw rate of the strike will be off. On a side note, PM me I have some info for you on a great priced lock solution.

oh the whole lock will be going. i'm just going to repin on the day of closing, probably without caring about an operable key on all but 1 door just to get the property secure. that and through bolt a few windows(they'll get replaced). then i've got all the time i need to get the locks i want, but i'm looking for ideas of brands and/or types to look for.

should be possible to call a decent lockie to get a copy cut, i just want something more entertaining on my keychain than another schlage.
