Cam Lock weakness

Postby Guitar_J » 22 Aug 2004 20:18

I was looking at a double bitted cam lock I have today...the kind with threads down the body of the lock...

I realized that these locks are really a bolt with a lock in the middle of them.. therefore.. wouldn't these be very vulerable to applying a turning force to the face of the lock and pretty much just unscrewing them enough to rotate the cam to unlock it?

is there any solution to this weakness?

That is the weakness, but bear in mind, these are normally convenience locks not for security. A little more secure lock in the cam lock line, has flats on either side that match up to punched hole of the same shape, then its held in place with a clip. That way they dont turn at all, helps, but still not made for any real security.

Yea... I suppose that is correct... they're not made for any real ammount of security... but still... the places i see them in use, it makes me wonder why they don't use something a bit more secure.
