Brinks shrouded at Wal-Mart?

Postby apb » 11 Sep 2008 22:26

Has anyone seen the Brinks shrouded padlock sold at a Wal-Mart near you? This seems to be the place everyone has purchased them from past posts but I've been to three stores and nothing. The last one I actually tried to ask one of the employees in the hardware area if they sold a "Brinks shrouded padlock" and for a moment, I swore I grew male genitalia out of my forehead just from the look he gave me. Online might work but figured I'd try going the "easy" route.

The wal-mart's around here recently got rid of most of their padlocks. Now they only sell cheap master padlocks and combo locks.

Like freakparade said most Walmarts have crap. The 3 in my town are mostly laquered laminated master's and combo locks, but they oddly do get in the high security brinks more frequently than they have in the past. It doesn't seem like they have a stock, more like they have an overstock they are trying to get rid of as they usually show up in the clearance isle after a week or two. Brinks disc locks, shrouded, and the high security little brass Brinks with the long shackle and short shackle. It may just be a matter of checking every week to see what they have in stock.

I remember seeing them on a clearance aisle not too long ago. Though I can't say if they would still be there.

They have them online, and they will ship them to a store for you.

Good luck,

Well after searching a few more Wal-Mart stores I've come to the same conclusion as this:

Nicely put. I gave up and bought two online from amazon and they arrived pretty quickly. The Wal-Mart website didn't display any indication they sold brinks shrouded either. I tried the supercenter suggestion and they did have a larger selection of locks. Once again I asked another employee if they had the brinks shrouded padlock and after receiving a lot of eye blinking and open mouth breathing, realized that they too did not know what I was talking about.

On the package the lock is listed as Automotive. Just out of curiosity, has anyone else found any other retail/hardware/auto stores that sold this lock off the shelf?

It never fails. As soon as I open my mouth the rules change. Guess what? I went to my local super Walmart today, and every single lock on the shelf was a... you guessed it. Brinks. Maybe 5 master's total and everything else was a moutain lock? That may not be right, but it was packaged in Brinks packaging with a different similar generic name. No more Faultless or Master 140's. No Master combo locks. Only Brinks. I don't know why, but I welcome the change even though they are overpriced. 5 bucks for a 40mm brass brinks short shackle? Kiss my grits.
