key pin question

Postby Murph » 30 Aug 2004 11:55

I have some Kwikset cylinders that I have been practicing on for over a month now. To make picking more challenging, I took one of my cylinders and randomly put in key pins in a long-short pattern so it comes out to 3 long and 2 short. The cylinder is more difficult to pick. Can you ramdomly put in pins, or do they have to follow the contour of the key? I appreciate thoughts on this.
Thanks in advance.

you can randomly put in the pins to make picking harder for yourself, but the key won't turn the lock anymore if you do so. if you put the pins back in the order the way they were before, the key will work again

Thank you. That's what I thought, I just wanted to make sure.

To everyone, no further replies are needed. Thanks
