American 5260 (frankenlock)?

Can anyone help me turn my 5-pin American 5260 into a 6-pin frankenlock using the 5-pin key?

This is not a recommended practice but it can be done just for fun. When you take the cylinder out, you can see if it was designed for six pins. If so, you can add one more pin in the 6th space. It will have to be a long pin, like a 7, 8, or 9 so the tip of the 5 pin key will just touch the pin and bring it up to the shear line or just above. The pin will be resting on the angled ramp until you cut it back a little bit with a file.

To do this correctly you must get a new 6 pin blank and then you can put any combination you want into it.

Why didn't you just ask this question in the first post? Then someone would have offered to send you some. Your city probably has a locksmith that might give you some pins and a spring if you ask nicely.

I just thought that I would broaden my question to see what kind of information people had regarding a modded American 5200 series padlock. Maybe someone has firsthand experience with this. Who knows?

My city does have a few locksmiths, but the few that I have talked to don't seem so excited about me manipulating locks open as a hobby. It may have something to do with my long and curly hair. It just screams "incompetent hippie".



I would be willing to pay for the parts/shipping/time if someone would be nice enough to to send some my way.
