i want to say NO, but im not completely sure. also i have 2 master#3's and one is MUCH easier to pick than the other, so even if u get a number 4 it might not be as easy to pick as the number 3

Nope. I have one too, and they are pretty much the same. like MacGnG said, the bitting on one could be harder, or it could be dirty.

ah ok, so its essentially the same thing... the No.4 is just like Brass coated or something. it feels very stiff, it could very well be dirty, i know its old. thanks for the info

Yes. AFAIK, all the single-digit Master padlocks that I've ever seen all use the same 4-pin, W1 cylinder.

alright so i can get it open fairly consistently now. its got a really heavy turn to it, so i dont think i was giving enough tension to even open the lock. i was sitting there fiddling with the pins and i just pushed my TW and it was already open lol i just didnt realize.
as for my next lock, i want to move to something with security pins. is the Masterlock No.140 a good start? 4 pin, 2 security? spools i think

The #140 is the route that most folks have gone. Then, the #911, #930, etc. The #911 is one of my favorites. It's such a fun lock to pick. LOTS of feedback.

ok cool im gonna look into getting one of those. any idea where they are sold? the home depot here has like 15 different locks, all masterlock but weird ones. are there any good deadbolts i can buy that would give me equivalent difficulty? given that they arent very expensive.

Home Depot sells the #911 and #930.
As for deadbolts, I'm not sure. The Defiant (Home Depot brand) have security pins (at least one) but, they're still pretty easy to pick.

What is #3 and #4 referring to in regards to the master locks? the only thing i can see it might be is the astm rating on the back of the package.
i have a master magnum that i've been fighting with for days. i'm just trying to gauge if it should be this difficult as well.
